Showcasing CPES research in 2009 Annual Conference

The CPES 2009 Annual Conference, held April 5-7, 2009 at CPES-Virginia Tech, was a success, albeit the economic downturn. This year’s annual event attracted over 170 participants representing 60 companies and organizations from 10 countries, providing the forum for CPES to showcase the Center's research performed over the past year.

The 2½ day program began on Sunday afternoon with a tutorial on EMI. After a welcome address by Virginia Tech’s engineering dean, Day 2 kicked off with 4 invited talks that addressed the topics of GaN-based power conversion, high-voltage SiC and GaN power switching devices, smarter renewable energy resources, and trends for integrated point-of-load converters.

On Monday and Tuesday, the program offered 5 technical sessions with 17 oral presentations that covered the Center’s research in power management, high-density medium power converters, advanced power semiconductors and components, high density integration, and modeling and control. This was followed by a highly interactive dialogue session that featured 130 posters and 59 additional papers to highlight the Center’s work on materials and packaging, advanced semiconductor devices, power management, renewable energy, EMI, power architecture, and high-density, hybrid electric power systems.
