CPES Vision
In 2006, the Center faculty, working together
with its industry partners, have developed an expanded
vision of providing leadership through global collaborative research
and
education for creating electric processing systems of the highest
value to society, emphasizing the technical focus as well
as the long-term impact on society. CPES is now challenged to continue
the realization
of the IPEM concept for power electronics systems integration to
a wide range of next-generation energy efficient and environmentally
friendly applications.
In light of this vision, the program has remained
focused on four major goals:
1. To develop IPEM-based (modular) power electronics energy processors
using an integrated systems approach to improve the reliability, cost-effectiveness,
and performance of power electronics systems, and to reduce the time
and effort associated with developing and manufacturing such systems;
2. To further expand the IPEM concept and integrated system approach
and to explore viable and innovative opportunities for industrial
applications such as alternative energy, more energy efficient and
cleaner transportation, and energy-efficient lighting and appliances;
3. To attract people with diverse backgrounds to power electronics
and educate them as future leaders by developing innovative power
electronics systems-oriented curricula and approaches to foster interdisciplinary
learning; and
4. To share the knowledge gained by CPES initiatives through active
outreach programs and industrial affiliate programs.
