Tim Thacker completed his Ph.D. program in October 2009. His dissertation, "Phase-Locked Loops, Islanding Detection and Microgrid Operation of Single-Phase Converter Systems” is available online to CPES Principal Plus, Principal and Associate members via password access.
Tim was born in Alexandria, VA in 1981. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 2003 from Virginia Tech, and joined the Center for Power Electronics Systems (CPES) to continue his graduate studies. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering in the Fall of 2005 and 2009, respectively, focusing on Three-Phase and Single-Phase grid-tied converter control and operation. Upon completing his Ph.D. work, Tim joined VPT Energy Systems in Blacksburg, VA, as the Chief Engineer for Research and Product Development.
Tim enjoys soccer, swimming, hiking, and spending time with his wife, Katie, and 3-year-old daughter, Julia.
