CPES Invited Talks at NRL and ARL Workshops
In early January, CPES Director, Dr. Fred C. Lee, gave two invited talks at separate workshops organized by U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) and U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL).
The Workshop on "Energy Efficiency Through Wide Bandgap Power Electronics," was organized by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C., January 7-8, 2009. The objective of the workshop was to address the potential energy efficiency gains achievable when using wide bandgap semiconductors in DoD power electronics. The CPES presentation, "Power Electronics: An Enabling Technology - Industry Motivation/Impact," was given on January 7, 2009.
The 2nd invited talk by Fred Lee, "Micro-Scale Power Converters," was given on January 8, 2009 at the "Advisory on Electron Devices (AGED) and Study Topic Area (STAR) Review Workshop on Integrated Micro-Power Sources" in Arlington, Virginia. Organized by U.S. Army Research Laboratory, this one-day workshop included invited talks by users of power (UAV's, u-robotics, etc.), sources (fuel cells, harvesters), storage (batteries, supercaps), and conversion/control. The workshop mainly addressed the directions of the projected research focus for the next ~10 years.
