CPES keynote address and invited talks at power electronics symposia in Japan, January 2008

Over the past 3 years, three global power electronics centers -- CPES (Center for Power Electronics Center), AIST PERC (Japan's National Institute of Advanced Science and Technology Power Electronics Research Center) and ECPE (European Center for Power Electronics) -- have organized joint activities to raise awareness of the importance of power electronics and work on technology roadmap development. CPES's technology roadmap workshops in November 2005 and October 2006, AIST's Power Electronics New Wave Workshops (PENW-WS) in April 2005, June 2006 and January 2008, and ECPE's Workshop on Power Electronics Research and Technology Roadmaps in September 2007, all involved active participation by the three centers. On January 17, 2008, CPES Co-Director, Prof. Dushan Boroyevich, gave a keynote address at the AIST Symposium on Network Society and Energy as part of the IEEE PELS (Power Electronics Society) Distinguished Lecturers Program. His talk, "Future Electronic Power Distribution Systems - A contemplative view," provided an overview of CPES research in distributed energy systems. Other keynote addresses were presented by ECPE, NTT Facilities and Toyota. On January 18, 2008 at the 3rd AIST Power Electronics New Wave Workshop, Prof. Boroyevich gave 3 invited talks and presented updates on: (1) Research Experience and Future of CPES; (2) Power Electronics Technology Roadmap Developments at CPES; and (3) CPES Post-NSF Graduation Plan. These CPES presentations are available on-line to Principal Plus, Principal and Associate members at http://www.cpes.vt.edu/industry/ under "Workshops and Symposia." (Member log-in required.)
