Ming Xu was born in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province, China on October 10th, 1970. He received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in China in 1991. He went on to earn his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Zhejiang University in China in 1994 and 1997, respectively, and continued to work as a post-doc researcher and an associate professor in Zhejiang University between 1997 and 2001. His 15-year professional experience also includes working as a senior design engineer in the power division of Emerson Network Power (formerly Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.), R&D manager of Qiaoxin Power Technology Co. Ltd., as well as a consultant in the U.S.

Dr. Xu is currently an Associate Professor with the Center for Power Electronics Systems (CPES) at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He is an IEEE senior member. Since 2001, he has been with CPES of Virginia Tech as the chief research scientist. His research interests include high-frequency power conversion, distributed power system, power factor correction techniques, low voltage high current conversion techniques, high-frequency magnetic integration, modeling & control of converters, and power semiconductor devices. He holds 14 U.S patents, 7 Chinese patents and 11 U.S. patent pending. He has co-authored one book and published more than 100 technical papers in journals and conferences.
