Jian Sun received his PhD degree from University of Paderborn, Paderborn, Germany, in 1995. He was a Post-Doctoral Fellow with the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, from 1996 to 1997. He worked in the Advanced Technology Center of Rockwell Collins, Inc., from 1997 to 2002, where he led several projects on the development of power conversion technologies for aerospace applications. In August 2002, he joined the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as an Associate Professor. His research interests are in the general area of power electronics and energy conversion, with particular emphasis on converter topologies, modeling, control, and various applications including microelectronics, aerospace, renewable energies, and power systems. He has published more than 80 journal and conference papers on these subjects, and holds 6 US patents.
Dr. Sun is a Member of the IEEE Power Electronics Society, and serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics. He is the Chair of the IEEE Power Electronics Society's Technical Committee on Simulation, Modeling, and Control, and was the General Chair of IEEE COMPEL '06 Workshop.
