Gregory Nellis received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he worked on cryogenic refrigeration technology based on active magnetic refrigeration. He subsequently worked for several years at Creare Incorporated in Hanover, NH on various projects related to turbomachine based reverse-Brayton cryocoolers.

Professor Nellis joined the faculty at the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2001 and is currently an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and the Assistant Director of the Computational Mechanics Center in the Mechanical Engineering Department. Professor Nellis teaches measurement theory, thermodynamics, and heat transfer and works on thermal-fluid modeling in a variety of fields.

Professor Nellis is an active member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME), the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the Cryogenic Society of America (CSA), and the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR). He has authored and co-authored multiple publications in journals, transactions and conference proceedings.
