Carlos E. Cuadros-Ortiz got his Bachelor's in Electronics Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogota, Colombia in 1982, and his MSc. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1998 and 2003.

He worked as a research associate and instructor at Universidad Javeriana from 1980 till 1985, and then with Lab-volt Systems, based in Quito, Ecuador from 1985 until 1991 as a field engineer. At Virginia Tech, he worked as a graduate research assistant from 1991 until 1999 and was involved in research in the areas of modeling and control of three-phase to dc bidirectional converters, three phase isolated rectifiers, and high power isolated paralleled dc to dc converters. From 1999 to 2002, he worked for Dynamic Structures and Materials in Franklin, Tennessee, in the design and construction of power electronics for piezoelectric-based micro-positioning systems, switched power amplifiers, and low power dc to dc converters.

Since 2004, he has been Assistant Professor with the Electrical Engineering Department at University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez. He research interests include design, modeling and control of bidirectional isolated dc to dc and ac to dc power converters for interfacing renewable energy sources, battery banks, the power line and loads.
