Renewable Energy Systems 

Building upon long-time research experience in space power systems (including solar/photovoltaic sources, battery charger/discharger, DC distribution), CPES is establishing a strong research program on renewable energy systems.

CPES' renewable energy systems research is focused on three major areas:

1. Sources — dedicated converters for interfacing renewable sources (photovoltaic, wind, battery, etc.) to the power distribution system
2. Smart and energy-efficient appliances (SBI lighting projects; MEW lighting projects)
3. Innovative power distribution systems and microgrid

Over the past few years, the flagship research program in this area has been the Sustainable Building Initiative (SBI).
